1. easy-to-configure font replacement so the text is big enough to read.
2. Ispell or Aspell spell-checking on the fly in the editor of choice.
3. Preferably a non-GUI, as I don't need that to write ASCII text files.
4. I would *really* like keystrokes that I can customize, but I'll forget
that if everything else falls into place.
I can (usually) paste text into joe if the linewrap is turned off first. I
use a konsole with a Bitstream Vera Sans Mono font in 14 points in an 80x25
terminal. To spell check a single word, place the cursor on it and hit
"alt-n". Btw, joe is a color-syntax editor these days, like jed.

I just tried my file paste and it works, right up to where the Jed editor
starts dropping lines. I'm beginning to think this is the limitation of
the Konsole terminal screen, itself. However, I also like the way I was
able to move my keystroke file from Jed's configuration over to Joe's
.joerc file. That would make the transition easier, yes.

<sigh> But Jed is in color <mumbling to myself> and has such a pretty
color scheme that I spent hours and hours figuring out, with pretty Red
and White menus and all the stuff I did to convince it to spell-check on
the fly. <another sigh> However, you are right. BTW, I thought that .JPG
you sent of your answer in Joe was really cool. 8-)

If I switch to "Shell No.2" and it has a bunch of text scrolled, I can
left-click the bottom line, drag it to the top where it will scroll a
couple screens worth. Switch back to "Shell No. 1" and click the middle
button, and the whole lot (2-3 screens I suppose) will be pasted.

Pasting usually goes without trouble, but joe uses the back tic (`) to
generate a meta-character, which necessitates a manual fixup if it's part
of the pasted text.

That konsole measures 11 inches diagonally, it's fairly easy to read.

What font does the terminal use? That has to be pretty large to be so nice
and clear. ;-)

It's a "custom" font from the konsole settings menu.
14 pt Bitstream Vera Sans Mono, 80x25 terminal size.
