Good morning, everyone!

My KINGDOM! MY KINGDOM! I'd give my entire Kingdom for a decent default
PATH statement in *ANY* brand of Linux. Debian seems to have gotten most
of it right, but forgot /usr/local/sbin and /sbin when it was setting
things up. One of these days somebody is going to shock the crap right out
of me by creating a default PATH statement for the root that is sensible,
usable out of the box and functional! ARGHHH!

I've no explanation, but on the laptop:

user:~$ echo $PATH
/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/games

root:~# echo $PATH
/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin/X11

I'll verify that on a new Debian install finished moments ago on a Bochs
virtual machine. Boy howdy is that slow. So anyway, where is this Kingdom
and when can I claim it? ;-)

Btw, I've discovered "greet_pause" in the new sendmail. I'm getting a lot
of aborted attempts to connect now. Love to see this kind of response from
those bozos:

Jan 23 11:46:08 gonzo kernel: ABORTED IN=ppp0 OUT= MAC= SRC=80.56.28.246

One block north of the unpainted lamppost in front of The Pow Wow Tavern
in beautiful downtown Springdale, Washington. While I call it a kingdom at
times, others may have slightly less heart-warming phrases to describe the
Sheep Creek basin. While I don't really *own* it, I once was responsible
for removing nearly 7 tons of beer cans, garbage and various pieces of
underwear from both sexes (used) from the basin a few years ago. My logic
was if they can spend millions each year paying kids to clean up litter
alongside the highways, I could spend a lot less and clean up the basin.
It has been referred to ever since as "Laird's basin".

I will fill out the paperwork any time of your choosing to re-dedicate my
kingdom, formerly known as Laird's Basin, as The James Vahn Basin.

I can also give you an IPTables snippet that will help protect you from
this sort of junk, too.

A touching and romantic story Sir Laird, I think perhaps the Kingdom
should remain in the Laird Dynasty..

Mostly interested in keeping it quiet, whadya got? I'm using the rules
generated by Guarddog. The default is so tight that it can't even talk
or listen to itself, but the logging has to stop. I have yet to read any
directions however, probably on Page 1.
